Welcome to the class page for Mr O’Connell’s year 2&3 class.
In the Spring term, our topic is ‘Survival of the Fittest’ and will be based around Geography areas of locating ourselves in the world. We will be learning all about the world with studies about the continents and oceans, time zones, local area studies of our place in the United Kingdom and map studies with co-ordinates and compass directions. We will also be learning other key skills in this topic about den building and first aid skills.
In the first half term, through our work with the Power of Reading, we focused on a book called ‘The Adventures of Egg Box Dragon‘. This focuses on a girl called Emma and her junk modeled dragon that comes to life under the moonlight!
We will also be learning about fractions, statistics, shapes and measurement in maths whilst continuing to use our skills of place value in our numbers along with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will be developing our skills through a range of resources and written forms of calculation which will form the foundations of Key Stage 2 mathematical learning.
Our Science lessons will be exploring the life-cycle and growth of plants whilst we study what they need to survive.
We will have our music lessons on a Monday afternoon and our P.E sessions will be on a Wednesday and a Thursday afternoon. Please can you ensure your child brings their P.E kit at the beginning of each term and leaves it at school. This should include their house t-shirt. Replacements can be purchased at the school office for £1.50.
We look forward to a successful year at Moat Academy,
